Marco Tamayo (Cuba)

 

Marco Tamayo, the cuban born guitarist with Austrian citizenship, acclaimed by the italian newspaper “L´Stampa” as “Il Re della Chitarra” and praised by musicians like John Williams, Ennio and Andrea Morricone, Leo Brouwer or Eliot Fisk, is one of the leading figures of the classical guitar worldwide. He has performed as soloist with famous orchestras like the Philarmonic of Turin; Italy, Philarmonic of St. Petersburg, Chamber Orchestra of St. Petersburg, Philarmonic of Culiacán; Mexico, Philarmonic of Havanna; Cuba, Oulu Philarmonic Orchestra; Finland, among others, and with famous conductors like Ennio and Andrea Morricone, Justus Frantz, Philipe Bender, Leo Brouwer, Paolo Ferrara, Gordon Campbell, Kurt Redel, Hannu Lintu, etc. Marco Tamayo has six albums on the market, three of them with the Naxos Label and countless reviews that express his, like commented by the guitarist Eliot Fisk: “... a perfect technical development and an extraordinary musical intelligency”. Marco Tamayo started to perform at the age of three having his father as teacher. His first performances took place at the age of six, and up to the age of ten, he won several competitions in Cuba. With ten years he went on tour in Germany and Bulgaria, starting like that a career that have not stop until today. His teacher at that time, Antonio Alberto Rodríguez, put in him the seads of all his knowledge as Tamayo was his last student at the island. While finishing his education with famous musicians and guitarists, Tamayo had won several first prizes at major international guitar competitions like “Andrés Segovia” in Herradura and Granada (España), Michelle Pittaluga-Citá di Alessandria (Italia), Leo Brouwer competition (Havanna), among many others, having won more than 25 First prizes at international events! Mr. Tamayo is an active performer with a vast repertory including works from the Renaissance, through the Barock, Classic and Romantic, to the XX and XXI centuries music. He has transcribed for the guitar several works written originally for orchestra, harpsichord, luth, violin or different ensambles, and also some of the most popular tunes of today. Some composers have written music for him, and the renowned Leo Brouwer has lately arranged some songs of the Beatles for the duo Tamayo-Montesinos. Marco Tamayo also performed the premier of “Ciudad de las columnas” by L. Brouwer, in France, and was invited to different festivals in the year 2009 and around the world performing the music of L. Brouwer, celebrating his 70th birthday. As former student of Nicolaus Hartnoncourt (Early Music), Antonio Alberto Rodríguez and Leo Brouwer (guitar), Anthony Spiri (Harpsichord), Eliot Fisk (guitar), and Reinhard Schmid (violin), Tamayo is Professor at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg, made his Habilitation on the 2006 for classical guitar at the same institution, and since then he has achieved a lot of international success for the students of the guitar class in Salzburg. Since the year 2005, he teaches as Professor at the Landeskonservatorium in Klagenfurt. His classes are visited by guitarists from all over the world, and his students are prize winners of international guitar contests. Some of them are on the way to major careers. Since last year 2013 Marco Tamayo teaches at the Sydney University, Conservatory of Music, in Australia. Taking into consideration his young age, Tamayo has introduced a new way of approaching the instrument by his way of performing and teaching. His book: “Essential principles for the performance on the classical guitar” was published by Chanterelle Verlag, Germany. (First 500 copies were sold out before it came out).

Mr. Tamayo is regularly invited to be a juror by international guitar competitions and guess performer and teacher by many festivals around the world.

Tamayo’s 2011 tour started teaching Masterclass in New York City, followed by several concerts in Mexico, Russia, Italy and Germany. In October 2011 Tamayo performed the Concerto de Aranjuez, by J. Rodrigo with conductor Justuz Frantz at the KKL Luzern, which was a great success with a sold out hall. (1800 seats) Maestro Andrea Morricone has composed a guitar concerto that was premiered last September by Marco Tamayo and the composer as conductor. For the year 2012 the schedule included tours in Bahamas, Texas, GFA (Guitar Foundation of America), Moscow, Kazan, Chita, all in Russia, Italy, Germany, Austria, Spain, among others. Marco Tamayo is a Savarez Artist and perfoms with Alliance Corum Blue strings. The tour 2013 included Germany, USA, France, Spain, Thailand, China and Australia. The tour 2014 includes Australia, Mexico, USA, Germany, Austria, Sweden, Thailand, Cuba, among others. Marco Tamayo is the artistic director of the Michele Pittaluga Int. Guitar Competition.

Paulo Soares (Portugal)

 

Paulo Soares was born in Coimbra in 1967. After studying piano, accordion, classical guitar and cavaquinho, Paulo started studying Portuguese Guitar, at the age of 16. He studied intensively the traditional repertoire of Guitarra de Coimbra, including some of the repertoire of Guitarra de Lisboa, developing ways and methods which he creatively used in Fado de Coimbra, Jazz, Pop and Folklore. He has performed by himself but also with various duos, trios, string quartets, sax quartets, string orchestras, guitar orchestras, classical orchestras, etc. Paulo Soares has written and edited the first two volumes of the book Método de Guitarra Portuguesa. He was the first Portuguese Guitar teacher at the official music schools. Paulo Soares was the one to open the course of Portuguese Guitar, which is still lectured, and he has taught in Coimbra and Oporto. Dozens of guitar players admire his enormous pedagogical abilities and have been improving thanks to his innovations. Paulo Soares is a generous Guitar master whose teachings have an immeasurable value for the guitaristic community.

 

João Moita

 

João Moita has a degree on Musical Sciences in the area of Musicology from Universidade Nova de Lisboa and also a degree on Guitar from the University of Lisbon, with José Diniz. In 2006, he got his master’s degree on Guitar Performance, from the University of Aveiro. Today, he teaches Guitar and Chamber Music at the Conservatório de Música de Aveiro de Calouste Gulbenkian and at the Conservatório de Música de Seia – Collegium Musicum.

André Madeira (Portugal)

 

André Madeira began his studies with Ragner Tovar. Then he studied with Miguel Lélis at the Conservatório de Música de Aveiro and with Paulo Vaz de Carvalho at the University of Aveiro. In Germany, he studied with Roberto Aussel (Guitar) and with Paulo Álvares (Contemporary Music), obtaining the Diplom-Musiker da Hochschüle für Musik Köln. Afterwards, in Belgium, he post-graduated with Odair Assad and later on completed his Master en Guitare at the Consérvatoire Royal de Mons.Today, he is a teacher at the Instituto Universitário Piaget de Viseu and at the Conservatório de Música de Coimbra.

Anabel Montesinos (Spain)

 

Anabel Montesinos, one of the leading figures of the classical guitar worlwide, “a promising star of the classical guitar”, as said by Maestro Antón García Abril after having listened to Ms. Montesinos at her age of fifteen years old, is a winner of several major international guitar competitions like the Francisco Tárrega in Spain and the Michele Pittaluga in Alessandria, Italy. Her musical expression and taste has blowed the audience wherever she has performed. Anabel Montesinos started the music education at the age of five and with the guitar at the age of six. She was presented after few months as a wonder child and few years later presented in the same way in Mallorca, performing a solo recital at her age of eleven-twelve. Ms. Montesinos has recorded for the radio and television in Spain, Poland, Italy, and Sweden. Many prizes at international major competitions went to her openning the doors to the Naxos Classic Label where she could record her first album with a romantic period repertory. This CD was acclaimed by the international press and was chosen by the British Airlines as a part of the musical program in flights oversea. Anabel Montesinos has shared concerts with Paco de Lucía, presenting “the other side of the spanish guitar” music where she received standing ovation in Uppsala, Sweden. She has performed as a soloist with the Philarmonic of Moscow, Philarmonic of St. Petersburg, Philaharmonic of Turin, Phil. of Monterrey, in México, Phil. of Madrid, Phil. of Oulu, in Finland, just to mention some. Montesinos’s 2011 tour started at the Carnegie Hall where she received an standing ovation. Her second album, also produced by the Naxos Label is already on the market since last September 2011. The 2012 tour started in Nassau, Bahamas, followed by concerts in Mexico, Italy, Germany, Rumania, Moldavia, Russia, among many others. The tour 2012 also included Germany, Italy, Venenzuela, Mexico, Rumania and Poland. Her next CD is scheduled for summer 2014. This year tour includes Panama (performing Concerto de Aranjuez) Mexico, Germany, etc. Ms. Montesinos is a Savarez Artist and performs with Savarez Corum Blue. -First prize at the International Guitar Festival, Villa d' Anthony, in France.

-First prize at the International Competition El Condado in Jaén, Spain.

-First prize at the Instrumental Competition Sant Anastasi in Lérida, Spain.

-Prize Golden Guitar, at the International guitar Convenio in Alessandria, 2011, for the promissing young talent and aknowledge of her artistic activities.
